Temple Canyon
Temple Canyon is a magnificent 11 mile stretch of river. The beginning of the iconic Lower Canyons reach of the Rio Grande, this journey meanders through an ecologically significant part of the borderlands. It is the heart of the Texas recovery area for the desert bighorn as well as the most easterly habitat for the scissor-tailed flycatcher. The country feels big, with limestone canyons forming the backdrop for an area of breathtaking beauty. Three days gives a traveler the time to slow down and really take in this incredible area, with plenty of time to explore hiking options or just to sit in camp and enjoy the solitude.
