DESCRIPTION:Join The Expedition School Instructors for our newest addition to the training program\, the Climate Medicine Workshops. Post session\, to help promote healthful outdoor education\, recreation\, and wellness\, we are gifting all students a free hour of their choice on a paddleboard\, kayak\, or canoe. Workshops are open to the public. All ages welcome. \nThese workshops are designed to pique an interest or polish your knowledge and skills in some of our favorite topics\, information gleaned from our years spent guiding and providing medical support in the field. Topics will help our students better manage and understand the risks involved with heat-related emergencies\, traumatic brain injuries\, weather forecasting\, risk management\, overall trip/outing readiness\, and more. \nTrainings in our Climate Medicine Workshops are not for certification. However\, if you need continuing education credits as a student of The Expedition School\, or for your EMS program\, please let us know!  All trainings are 100% in-person at our boathouse in Austin\, Texas. \nIf you are seeking CE certification for this workshop\, please see below: \nUpon 100% attendance and successful completion of the CE exam and eval\, students will receive an Expedition School CE certification validating completion. SUMMARY:2025 Fourth of July Celebration at The Expedition School!
DESCRIPTION:Join us this year to celebrate the Fourth of July on the water! The City of Austin Star Spangled Fest\, presented by HEB\, will be based off of Vic Mathias Shores. The festivities and music will begin at 5:00PM\, with the Austin Symphony Orchestra playing at 8:30PM. Fireworks will start popping at 9:30P! \nOur Boathouse Guides will be on site all day running kayak\, canoe\, and SUP rentals. All regular rentals must return to the boathouse by 6P. Watercraft reserved for the fireworks display can be picked up as early as 6:30P\, and must be returned no later than 11:15P. Paddlers failing to return by 11:15P will incur a $100 late fee on their tab. \nPlease be aware of wind conditions on the water\, increased watercraft traffic\, and the big heat that we experience this time of year! We are always advocates of water safety and drowning prevention\, and ask that all paddlers wear a USCG approved PFD (lifejacket)\, which we will provide. \nThe City of Austin will string a buoy line across the water to prevent watercraft from crossing the path of the fireworks barge. Please be respectful of this line and any city staff. Thank you! \nWhat to Bring \n\nSunscreen\, hat\, sunglasses\nWater\, water\, water!\nSalty snacks\nWeather appropriate clothing\nHeadlamp or device to illuminate the paddle back home\, past dark\nCell phone in water proof case\nTowel\nExtra set of contact lenses (or your glasses)\nAny pertinent personal current medication(s) (EpiPen\, inhaler\, etc.)\n\n\nWhat to Leave \n\nAlcohol\nDrugs\nPets (Service animals welcome\, though\, need their own personal flotation device)\n\nPlease call or text with any additional questions or concerns – 512.922.6724.
